SILENT NIGHTS

What you need to know, and we need you to agree to

The Silent Nights sleep out isn’t meant to imitate or in anyway deprioritise the experience of people who are already living on the streets, but to raise awareness of our cause, and raise money so we can make sure everyone who needs it gets the support they deserve.

BY REGISTERING, YOU AGREE TO THE FOLLOWING GENERAL TERMS

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

DATE

18 - 19 December 2020

TIME

We suggest 19:00 – 07:00, but you decide. It’s important that you stay safe and well, so please manage your own health and wellbeing appropriately, and work out what times work best for you.

VENUE

You can choose either to sleep out where you live – in your garden, on your balcony, or in any other outside space you have permitted access to – or at your place of work (see below). Silent Nights cannot and does not sanction your sleep out if at any other public or privately owned space. We would ask that you to leave the venue tidier than you found it.

REGISTRATION

The sleep out is open to all, but please take account of your own well-being. Under 18’s are welcome to participate, but must have parental/guardian permission. Only participants that are registered will be able to take part in this event.

WEATHER

Expect wintery conditions! Make sure you have the right gear: woolly socks, hats, gloves, Christmas jumpers (of course!) and a sleeping bag. It can get chilly at night, even inside. And if you’re outside, stay dry!

HEALTH AND SAFETY

#ExcludedUK and #WeMakeEvents cannot be held responsible for your health and safety. Please take whatever steps you need to take, to ensure your own wellbeing.

COST

Registration is free, but we do ask a minimum fundraising target of £50 per participant.

FUNDRAISING

All donations must be made through our fundraising platform. We cannot accept cash or cheques. Totalled funds will be managed by #ExcludedUK and #WeMakeEvents, and distributed as follows:

  • 35%     #ExcludedUK (Registered CIC 12635856)

  • 45%     #WeMakeEvents (via BackUp, Registered charity 1159168)

  • 20%     Crisis (Registered charity E&W 1082947)

Sadly, we cannot claim Gift Aid on donations

SOCIAL MEDIA

Please follow, share and tag your images and videos, to @leftout_cold on both Twitter and Instagram, using the hashtags, #excludeduk, #wemakeevents, #crisis, #leftoutinthecold, #christmas

CONSENT

By participating, you give your consent for any images you provide to be used in any pre or post-event promotional material. Photographs and or audio-visual recordings may be exploited in all media for any purpose.

LIABILITY

Notwithstanding your participation, Silent Nights will have no liability for any loss, injury or damage to any person or property, however caused. By registering, you accept all due responsibility to all persons and property involved at your sleep out venue.

Any questions, please contact us

IF YOU DECIDE TO SLEEP OUT AT HOME

We encourage you to complete your own risk assessment for your sleep out: consider everything that might ‘go wrong’, and plan in advance what you will do about it if it does.

Ensure everyone has the appropriate equipment, food, and drink for your sleep out and take it in turns to stay awake through the night if appropriate. If you get too cold, go inside.

You must comply with the current government COVID-19 guidelines. Although you will be in a household ‘bubble’, we still ask that you follow government guidance on how to stay safe.

Silent Nights will have no liability for any loss, injury or damage to any person or property, however caused.

IF YOU DECIDE TO SLEEP OUT AT WORK

Please ensure that you have permission. Ask for copies of the venue’s risk assessments and information on their emergency procedures.

We also encourage you to complete your own risk assessment for your sleep out: consider everything that might ‘go wrong’, and plan in advance what you will do about it if it does.

As it’s a place of work, you will need to comply with the Health and Safety at Work Act. Don’t forget to share emergency contacts within your group and designate a trained first aider if you feel it is appropriate. Check with your employer if their insurances cover your sleep out, and to what extent.

You must comply with the current government COVID-19 guidelines. Although there is no limit on the number of participants at a work venue, we still ask that you maintain social distancing (2m / 1m+) at all times.

Ensure everyone has the appropriate equipment, food, and drink for your sleep out and take it in turns to stay awake through the night if appropriate.

We strongly recommended not to bring anything of value to the event. Silent Nights will have no liability for any loss, injury or damage to any person or property, however caused.
